Picture Notes

Today I have said my farewells to my Canon G9, its a shame it had to go but I have a new love in my life…

A Sigma DP1, it’s AF is almost useless, it’s slow, I mean real slow (about 4 seconds between shots), it’s got no zoom yes thats right its got a fixed 28mm lens, its LCD is poor and its not the best looking of cameras either I must add, but after using it for about 10 minutes you can see past its faults and realise its a gem of a camera.

And although its a compact camera in its looks with a SLR’s sensor in it, it falls in neither camp. It is neither a compact or an SLR but an amazing image capturing device who’s images are quite stunning from something of its dimensions.

Now don’t get me wrong the G9 is an excellent compact camera and at its time of purchase was one of the best on the market, it’s quick, easy to use, has all the bells and whistles and takes great if not better than great pictures.

And if Canon had been clever they would have made the G9′s replacement (which spooky enough they called the G10) with a crop sensor and a better viewfinder and even if they had opted for a fixed lens I think they would have done it so well that they would have taken the market by storm.

It seems Canon like so many other companies nowadays are only interested in the profit line and not individual who picks up a camera, looks through the viewfinder and for a split second sees the world a little differently. If that’s you then you need a Sigma and not a G10, of that I am sure !!

Canon pull your finger out !
